Yoga in France 2012

Relax and rejuvenate in rural France.

Based in the Charente, the second sunniest region of France,
we’re staying in a beautifully renovated farmhouse with boutique style rooms,
an inspiring yoga space and delicious food.

Set amongst rolling fields of sunflowers, offering nature and nurture,
its the perfect place to unwind and deepen your practice.

Accommodation

Following the success of last years retreat and the overwhelmingly positive feedback, we’re returning to Les Passeroses, which has been described as ”the best dedicated yoga centre in France”. A tastefully renovated stone farmhouse, it retains many of its original features; oak floors, exposed beams and stone fireplaces.

The boutique style bedrooms are simply yet stylishly furnished with touches of luxury provided by high thread-count bedding and super-soft towels.  There is an enticing Moroccan styled guest salon, within which to relax and a spacious kitchen and dining room where you can help yourself to fruit, snacks and hot and cold drinks throughout the day.

There’s a large oval pool, surrounded by wooden decking and a tiled terrace where you can enjoy the heat of the sun, or relax in the shade of the gazebo and enjoy the panoramic country view.

Steps to the side invite you to explore the large garden,
the more intimate garden rooms, lake, potager and open spaces.

Yoga

There will be 2 classes most days, 11 classes in total.

The classes will take place in a former barn that has been transformed into an inspiring, light and airy fully equipped yoga space, with a dramatic tented ceiling and solid oak floors. Its large doors open onto far reaching views over the pool into the countryside or down to the lake, letting you feel at one with nature.

The morning class will be active and energising, deepening our understanding and experience of new and familiar postures; improving alignment, thereby creating freedom and space within the body mind. This year, I’m pleased to say that yoga wall ropes have been introduced, which will enhance our practice and are great fun to work with.

The evening session will be recuperative in nature, using props to support the body inducing deep relaxation, fostering the stillness and peace required to introduce pranayama (breathing) and meditation techniques, which build energy and foster serenity.

As a small group it will be possible to give more individual attention, adjustment and encouragement.

Food

There are three meals included for each full day we are there, except Wednesday night.  Its freshly prepared, using seasonal produce grown in the premises herb gardens and orchard, along with market bought organic goods when and if available. Based upon the cuisine of different countries, it takes you on a unique culinary journey around the world. Last year we experienced Italy, Japan, India, England and, of course, France.

It is a vegetarian menu, but never boring. Everyone found it healthy, balanced, imaginative and exciting! Alex, one of our hosts and Chef is constantly being asked for his recipes, a testament to how much the food is enjoyed.

A typical lunch menu would be:
-
Salad of courgettes with lemon,
fresh thyme and parmesan shavings
-
Wild mushroom and herb risotto
with garlic and rosemary bread
-
Green salad with
Balsamic dressing
-
Indian chai or fresh mint teach is served
with something sweet later in the afternoon

Dining takes place outside, on the opposite side of the house from the pool, undercover of a charming roofed and decked terrace. This position enhances meal-times, taking advantage of the warmth of the sun at lunchtime and cooler shade at dinner.
